The couch of my child hood was straight out of the 70's. Orange and Yellow and brownish in all it glory. It was a sectional and had a hide-a-bed. The portion that was for sitting only had well worn cushions and dipped in on some areas. We had two red throw pillows that clashed with the couch that were just as worn and together we had a fine crafted, designer piece of furniture.
After my mom divorced my step-dad, we got one portion of the couch. Fortunately my mom was smart and we ended up with the couch that had two arms; the hide-a-bed side only had one arm because it was intended to be pushed against the main section. We moved to our little 2 bedroom apartment and that couch turned into my mother's bed. She refused to share a room with me insisting that I needed my own room as a teenage girl.
The couch stayed with us for more years than it had in it. The edges were worn down, a few different cats had their way with the arms, and the cushions sagged; but it was our couch. It had seen so many happy times, and tears all the same. It was a place where we shared movies and popcorn, opened Christmas and birthday presents, and spent so many T.V. hours together.
I miss that couch. I miss spending time on it and taking naps on it's well worn cushions. I miss the tacky colors. I miss that couch.
My parents came over today to do Christmas with us and the kids. The brought WAY too many gifts and made the kids very happy. When it came time for me to open my gifts, I opened a quilt from my mom. She quilts gifts all the time and I half way expected one since she made blankets for the kids last year. When I opened it, I knew exactly what it was. My quilt had all the colors of the couch. I had seen the fabric earlier in the year at her house and commented on how it reminded me of the couch. She said that she just had to make it after I talked about the old couch with her, and I couldn't have had a better gift... except the terry cloth robe from my brother.

I'm so glad you like it. Just think of the memories you and the kids can make on "the couch".
I love you!
